Recycling this comic with a new twist: Fact or Fiction? Only time will tell...
It turns out that when you’re a comic/cartoon artist who has a day job it’s TOTALLY LEGAL to recycle your own work and make small changes to the meaning and the punchline! Who knew? Anyway - this is one that I drew a few years ago, but had posted a week or so ago (and it got some traction) but with the original punchline - which was a grant application. Yesterday (a Monday BTW) I was sitting down to update my ToDo list for the week* and I thought, ‘yeah, but how much of this am I actually going to get done? This is kind of like writing fiction’. Then I thought, ‘hey - that makes me think of this awesome cartoon I saw … somewhere’. Then I thought, ‘hey - that was totally MY comic!’
* So - I keep a running ToDo list which I update every week. It’s in MS Word (I’ve tried other apps actually built for this and they don’t work well for me) and it’s been going for over 13 years now. I essentially take my previous ToDo list and update it with the new things I need to do and then save it with a new file name. The great part about it is that I can also use the document to track things like publications and grant proposals for the year, talks and posters, and anything else. The weird part is that the ToDo list is never ‘done’ - it just rolls on. And some entries get all ossified over time and slowly sink to a level where they just *sit* there and mock me. Well, mock me when I actually pay any attention to them.
Given that I’m sending you a recycled comic that is maybe not up to my normal freshly picked reputation, here is a collection of some other ToDo list cartoons and comics I’ve drawn over the years - a SubStack subscriber exclusive!
